Sunday Funday and Brooklyn Make-Up Studio!

It is no secret that I love the local Brooklyn Make-Up Studio. It is a gem in the midst of commercialized beauty- the people that work in the store are not only make-up artists; they know every single product they sell. Every. Single. Product. Stacey Catapano, lead make-up artist, makes sure that her fellow MUAs are comfortable and patient with customers, while providing professional services.

At the end of April. Brooklyn Make-Up Studio hosted a fabulous event for Mother’s Day. I took a few quick snapshots of the event:

There were plenty of goods on hand. Among the Smashbox, Stila, and Too Faced, there were Sweet Treats by Christina, who not only makes beautiful desserts but also makes up beautiful faces.

I didn’t have time to get made over but I did get a mini-facial with Caudalie products. I left looking refreshed and glowing. I also left with two Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks and Caudalie skincare. More on those another day…

If you are ever in the neighborhood, you should pop on by! From lips to tips, the  make-up artists are so welcoming and knowledgeable. You won’t be disappointed!

HauteLook Puts A Spring Into My Step!

Yes, please!

Yes, please!

A few weeks ago Taneja’s Bride did a post on possible Mother’s Day gifts. She mentioned the HauteLook Spring Beauty Bag. I have been a member of HauteLook for a long time and noticed the bag before, too, but it was always sold out before I could get my hands on it. Of course, after seeing it on Taneja’s Bride, it was sold out. Luckily, a few days later, I got another HauteLook email that there were more up for grabs. Mrs. Taneja was kind enough to email  but I was already on it! I received the bag on Thursday and am absolutely thrilled with the contents!

Perfect for summer

Perfect for summer

The bag is a shiny vinyl. The interior has a great lining and the entire pouch looks easy to clean. I love the navy and white stripes. I almost feel like I could take this with my for a weekend away in the Hamptons.

First up is a full size jar of Suki Skincare Exfoliate Cleanser. Made with lemongrass and natural sugar, this cleanser rejuvanates the face with alpha hydroxy acid and helps to de-gunk pores and obliterate dead skin cells. I can’t wait to try this out! $32.95 US/ 4 oz

Suki, suki!

Suki, suki! Did I mention this is a vegan product?

Keeping with the clean, the bag also has a variety of five LA Fresh wipes, three types of face wipes, a make-up remover wipe, and a body smoother wipe. These are going right into my travel bag! There are also three samples of Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in pink, rose gold, and bronze shimmer. I’m not one for an unnatural glow but they might be fun to try.

Be fresh, rosy, and glow!

Be fresh, rosy, and glow!

The mini Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten in Berry is a multi-shade blush with a touch of shimmer. I can’t wait t try it.

I am happy to report that the next products are full size and by LORAC! The first is LORAC Eyeshadow in Celebutante ($19 US), a very shimmery teal. Eyes with a pop of color are big this season. I think mine is broken and is now a “loose” pigment- I am calling HauteLook today.  I will try to use this to line my eyes in its loose state. There is also LORAC 3D Lashes Mascara ($22 US) , which claims to deliver up to 3X the volume. I L-O-V-E voluminous lashes.

To apply the lovely eyeshadow, I will use the Crown Brush Pro Blending Fluff. I use Crown Brushes and the quality is amazing. (On sale now at Crown Brush for $4.12 US!)

My eyeshadow is broken!

Another sample in the bag is Jessica Simpson’s Vintage Bloom. I wore a Jessica Simpson perfume for a bit but gave it away. I will give this a whirl- I think I have smelled it in a store and I was a little impressed. The travel sized  Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Demolition will keep me in line with the cat eye trend and NYX full size lipstick in Shiva will help me mouth off in hot pink. I am a fan of both products and can’t wait to try out the shade.

The value of the bag is worth way more than the $25 US I paid and I think it was curated well. I contacted HauteLook about my eyeshadow and… they gave me back $5 US. I am happy with that and their customer service is always fabulous! Well done, HauteLook. I will be buying this again next spring!

AND I ALMOST FORGOT… Some coupon codes!

Poring over Products- This is a LOT of Stuff

Last time I updated was Saturday. My apologies for not coming by sooner but this week and next are going to be so busy that I’m not sure when I will be able to fit in some time to write. I got a number of products last week and I have tried out quite a few of the items I received so I will give you a bit of a head’s up as to what I like and what I find to be eh.

First up, my package from I never really purchased anything from but my friend, Michelle, gave me a gift card for my birthday. I was excited to use it, as carries some excellent products. I did not really like the layout of the website but I managed. Luckily for me, if I spent $100, I would get a really cool looking make-up bag filled with deluxe samples. I ordered:

DermaDoctor Total Nonscents, Ultra-Gentle Antiperspirant ($20 US): More than I would normally spend on antiperspirant but I really suffer from itchy pits (sorry). They get very dry and the skin is very sensitive. I actually really like this antiperspirant. I don’t smell like fake flowers- in fact, I stay dry and don’t smell at all! I think this may have to become my regular antiperspirant.

Vapour Organic Beauty Mesmerize Eye Color Shimmer in Sugar ($18 US): I like that this is a stick eye shadow. It makes throwing it into my bag nice and easy. Sugar is very sheer and it brings pretty light to the eye area. I am curious as to how the other colors are.

Bare Minerals Remix Collection Loud & Clear Lip Sheer in Amped Pink ($15 US): Haven’t tried this yet but the tube is blue and the pink is bright. I’m thinking it will be sheer with better color pay out.

Smashbox Megatint Long Wear Lip Color in Whirl: Another one I need to get on my lips, Whirl is a pretty, natural looking pink. Megatint is supposed to fall somewhere between a lipstick and a stain and I am intrigued. I will let you know!

Yu-Be Lip Therapy ($5 US): A Japanese staple, Yu-Be makes lotion, cream, and lip balm. I love the camphor smell!

Lucy B!

Lucy B!

Lucy B Perfume Roll-On Oil, Royal Egyptian Amber & Honeysuckle ($24 US): Wasn’t too sure what to expect. I like amber. I like honeysuckle. I opened the roll-on and it smelled very similar to Hanae Morae.

Finally, my free gift. A great cosmetics bag with samples from Caudalie, Stila, Murad, Peter Thomas Roth, etc, tucked inside.

Onto Ulta…

I miss being near an Ulta. When I was in college, I would take a weekly trip and browse the aisles. That was about 10 years ago and now, Ulta has upped their game. The sell a nice mix of drugstore and higher end brands in one place. (FYI: Prices listed are from and are per piece.)

Color Sensational Color Whisper Lipcolor  by Maybelline Whow Red Red-er ($7.49 US) : I have not tried this color but have tried another Color Whisper. I think there are better sheer lipsticks but this one is lovely and not waxy.

Volum’Express The Rocket Waterproof Mascara by Maybelline in Very Black ($7.99 US): Lindz, over at Girl in the Glasses, loves this mascara, so I had to order it at her recommendation. I have to finish my current tube and a mini and I will go onto this.

Color Stay Ultimate Suede Lipstick by Revlon in Supermodel & Trendsetter($9.99 US): I tried Supermodel, a really sweet plum. And suede was this lipstick! It went on smoothly and lasted for about 3 hours without a touch-up. (It would have lasted longer if I didn’t drink that small glass of wine.)

Treat & Boost by Revlon ($7.99 US): Another nail treatment-I am really just hoping for a miracle here.

Butter Gloss  by NYX Cosmetics in Merengue & Strawberry Parfait ($4.99 US): I read about these glosses on a few blogs and was going crazy that I could not find them in my local beauty supply store. I also was under the assumption that they were lipstick bullets, not wand glosses. Duh- I was wrong. Merengue is a pale lilac pink and I was surprised how nice it looked on me. I always find that color to look chalky and I do not like the corpse-lip look. This gloss had enough shine to make the color pretty and wearable. Strawberry Parfait is now permanently in my bag and I use it often. It is way brighter in the gloss tube but when applied, is a natural pink. Both glosses are very soft, smooth, and go on like a dream. Well done, NYX!

Ulta Haul!

Ulta Haul!

XXXL Shine Lipgloss  by Essence in Big Night Out 07 ($2.49 US): I find Essence to be the underdog! I think some of their products are terrific. I didn’t like the last Essence gloss I bought so I ordered this one. I didn’t realize how shimmery it would be- I guess that is part of the lip plumping factor. It is a pretty pink gold but  I think I will stick to Essence eye products from this point on. The lip products aren’t my cup of tea.

French Manicure Tip Guides by Essence (.99 US): Since I am getting more adventurous with my nails I ordered these. I’m not sure how well they work, but for under a buck, I can deal.

Cleansing Hair-To-Toe Baby Wash by Philosophy ($10 US): Remember my itchy pits? I bought this because it is for babies. I currently use Aveeno’s baby wash for super dry skin and I thought I would give Philosophy a turn in my tub.

All in all, I spent too much money but I had plenty of fun doing it!

I have issues.

Really BirchBox?!

I am obsessed with beauty boxes. I have already sang my praises about GlossyBox and am waiting for my box from ipsy. I’m a member of Influenster, too. I have one more invite if anyone is interested. Today, though, today I am going to write about BirchBox. Let’s start with the basics- it’s $10 a month for a box of “deluxe” samples depending on your beauty profile. They are the first beauty subscription I heard of and the first that I ordered.

When I got my first box last year, I was excited. I can’t remember what was in it but I was happy just to have a surprise every month. The first few months were pretty great. Then something weird happened. I started getting crappy boxes- I mean, for $10 I would think they could do better. I got a few really great boxes- Teen Vogue was pretty good and I liked the extra box of Vichy products. Recently, they sent a goop box. Blech., C’mon, Gwyneth Paltrow, I expect more from you!

Anyway, I got my November box today and I am disappointed once again. There are four beauty products and one “lifestyle extra” (gee, thanks.) Here is what I got:

1) Oscar Blandi Pronto Texture and Volume Spray- Seems to be a texturizer that gives volume. If the peeps at BirchBox read my beauty profile, they would know I don’t need a volumizer. My hair is curly. Why would I need volume if I already look like a CH-CH-CH-CHia Pet?

2) Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer- This is a small tube and though I like highlighters, the one they sent me is a bit dark for my skin. I can probably use it  but again, why do I have a beauty profile? AND I just bought a set of three from Sephora for $10.

3) Miracle Skin Transformer Vanish Instant Imperfection Corrector- Okay, this is a primer with built in serum and   “optical diffusers.” I use primer so I will eventually get to this. Too bad the tube is tiny and I’ll only get 1-3 uses.

4) Atelier Cologne Rose Nonyme Cologne Absolue- I haven’t smelled the miniature vial and I just bought a set of these from Sephora. This was not included and since I like a few of the colognes in the set I purchased, I will use this.

5) Chuao Chocolatier ChocoPod (Lifestyle Extra)- A very tasty chocolate covered potato chip that was eaten in two bites.

6) BirchBox Holiday Catalogue- Product peddling magazine that was a little pretentious. I do not need to buy a $58 box for the home. No one needs an expensive deck of cards.

The one most excellent thing that BirchBox did was mention their support of The Art of Elysium, a non-profit that encourages those in the arts and performing arts to dedicate time and talent to children who are battling various medical conditions.

I apologize for my whining but after getting two excellent boxes from GlossyBox, I had to say something.

My box.

BirchBox is not Product Hoochie approved. I will not renew my subscription when it is up.

Refinery 29 & Coterie

I love They are a great blog site with up to the minute fashion, beauty, living, etc information. (The only one that gets me is the woman who does the make-up tutorials. Watch one and tell me what you think. Maybe I’m missing something!) Anyway, I am posting a link so you can sign up to Refinery 29’s Shops. They have some cool stuff and this week there is a deal to Coterie is a members only site (I’m sure you wanted a jacket at some point in your life) that has a selective collection of the newest beauty products. I will admit, the pickings are small but the prices are reasonable. Sign up through my link (it’s free) and check it out…

If you like what you see, head on over to and click on this link…

It’s free to sign up. The deal to Coterie is $40 for $80. Buy it, head over to Coterie, fill your bag, go to check out and put in your promotion code. Shipping was $4.99 and you cannot use this deal towards shipping (bummer).

Oh! Coterie does not ship internationally (yet) so if you live across the pond or in U.S. Territories such as Puerto Rico, do not buy this! Luckily, this excludes Canada, so if you’re in Toronto or Vancouver, give it a try.

You can still sign up and view the site.

Happy Shopping!

Take My Stuff… PLEASE!

I think he said something about taking his wife.

A few weeks ago, I started a contest on my Facebook page for a new sign-off.I originally planned for the contest to be over by September 19th, but I ended up having a crazy week and I kind of forgot about it. Oooops. Anyway, my usual “stay glossy” is actually the name of a lip gloss by Rimmel. I find Rimmel to be okay but I don’t want my sign-off to be related to a product that I have tried but don’t find exciting. Last night, as I was changing my make-up for summer to fall (it had to be done and I am thrilled with the new colors I can use) I discovered A LOT of unopened and unused make-up. I bought the stuff- it isn’t old and it is new. I gathered it together and now I have a plan…

I want YOU to come up with my new sign-off. Not only will you see it every time you read my blog, you will also get a bag of goodies chosen by me. Let me tell you- these are products I have tried and liked at some point in time. I just have so much, I figured I would share the love.

Here are the rules:

1) Go to the Product Hoochie Facebook page Hit the “Like” button. I promise I won’t fill your feed with crap.

2)Leave your “sign-off” as a comment on the Product Hoochie Facebook page.

3) Enter as many times as you want. Doesn’t matter to me and it will increase your chances.

*If you had posted something a few weeks ago, please post again. You can find it on my page somewhere I’m sure. There were some great ones.

I will pick a winner on October 5th. The “chosen one” will be contacted via Facebook.

That’s pretty much it. The goodies are pretty sweet. There is stuff from Stila, ELF, Eucerin, Benefit, Nexxus… you get the picture.

I know I’ll be staying glossy all this week. After the 5th, it is up to one of you! XOXO

The Product Hoochie’s Nine Necessities (Because it take a village- or a lot of Argan Oil)

1) Philosophy Bath, Shampoo, & Shower Gel: From Guava to Full of Grace, these multi-purpose gels are a definite beauty necessity. Start your morning off with some Senorita Margarita, minus the salt and the hangover. Finish your day with a slathering of Crème Brulee. The aroma envelopes you in the shower or bath and you can lather up anything! The best part- the scent will never clash with your perfume or body lotion.

2) MoroccanOil: MoroccanOil Treatment is hair oil that works well on my curly locks. It moisturizes without weighing hair down and cuts back the frizz. I use this on my freshly washed mane before I put in any other products.

3) Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel: When I know I am going to be out for the day (or night) and need to look fresh, I use this gel. Since my skin is super oily, this cuts back the grease and keeps me “bone-dry” all day without actually drying me out. I used this on my wedding day. Between this and Stacey’s expert hand, I looked fabulous.

4) Blinc Mascara: Blinc makes two products, mascara and liquid eyeliner. I can’t attest to the eyeliner yet BUT I can tell you the mascara is crazy! Blinc creates “tubes” around your lashes and doesn’t run, flake, or rub off until you wash your face with a lot of water. (I was a little freaked out when first washed it off, as little “spiders” were in my sink. Alas, it was Blinc just doing its job.) If you desire long, black, glossy lashes this is for you.

5) Smashbox Limitless Long Wear Lip Gloss: Shiny, without being goopy, this gloss has it all. Its gleam along with a little shimmer is classy, not juvenile. Wear it alone for a pop of color or over lipstick to add a little dimension.

6) Too Faced Shadow Insurance: This is an eyeshadow primer that is a can’t live without. Keeps my eyeshadow on my lids, exactly WHERE I PUT IT! Since it has a silicone base, you can blend your shadow and then let it set. It also evens out skintone and smooths lines, creating an impenetrable barrier between you and Tammy Faye.

7) Vincent Longo Rejuvenating Velvet Riche Lipstick: There are times I just need a creamy lipstick. It’s timeless. This is where Vincent Longo’s lipstick comes in. It is moisturizing and has collagen so lips stay firm (because a lot of things can start to sag and I’m not shooting up my face with fillers, just sayin’). The colors are gorgeous, from nudes to merlots, so there is something for everyone.

8) Stila Long Wear Lip Liner: I don’t use lip liner everyday but when I do, I hit up this one. It glides on the lips and lasts and lasts. Stila carries a red, hot pink, and a rose but I use Aspiring, a neutral beige. It works with any color in a pinch.

9) Fearlessness (guts, chutzpah, or spit-fire!): Realize you can wear whatever you want. If you aren’t sure about something, try it out anyway. Life’s too short to care if someone doesn’t like your lipstick. Remember, stay glossy!
