Stuff I Tried This Week x4

I have been a little MIA this week and I am sorry. We just have a lot going on and have been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to really give any solid and full reviews. SITW includes a few things that I used for the first time or gave another chance. On with it!

Face SPF 20 Coola Mineral Sunscreen Rose Tinted Moisturizer:

coola1

I think I received this in either a Birchbox or ipsy bag. I had another Coola product but had given it away and was slightly curious about this. The formula is very thin. I found a little to go a long way.

I didn’t find it to be rose tinted- it was more luminizing than rosy. It didn’t have the best coverage but I don’t wear a lot of coverage anyway.  I started using it on Monday and it made my skin oily. I tried it again Tuesday-Thursday and my face could rival an oil slick. By Friday morning. I could feel a zit forming on the left side of my nose. It is one of those underground ones, too. It hurts. Needless to say, I threw the rest in the garbage. If you need a tinted SPF for your face, I would not recommend this one.

Ow.

Ow.

Wet n Wild Take On the Day Primer: I bought this a while back and when I first used it I wasn’t impressed. I recently finished a tiny tube of Too Faced Shadow Insurance and had this handy so I started using it again. At first I thought it was doing a decent job. A few days later, I noticed it wasn’t. My eye shadow became splotchy, and was on places other than my lid. I threw it out today and went back to my NYX HD Eye Primer. I missed it and decided that I would never stray again.

Julep Essential Cuticle Oil: I received this in that fancy Birchbox for CEW delivery. I own one Julep polish and it is super thin and has awful coverage. I also got a Julep polish with the cuticle oil. It is so thick that when I went for a mani/pedi, even the manicurist complained. I am underwhelmed by the cuticle oil, too. It comes in a roller ball and is supposed to “soften rough cuticles.” I would need vats of it. It dries very quickly, which on one hand (ha!) is good, but that means it isn’t sticking around to really moisturize. Julep Essential Cuticle Oil is really touted for daily use and is meant to be easy to carry with you. I do not have time to dab cuticle oil on my nails. Don’t waste $18 USD.

It does smell pretty.

It does smell pretty.

Cool Whip Cookies: I found a recipe floating around Facebook and then I did a little google search. Basically, you take any flavor cake mix you want, add an eight ounce container of thawed Cool Whip, and an egg. You mix it and get a nice cookie dough. You drop balls of dough into powdered sugar and throw them in a pre-heated 350 F degree oven. Then you let them cool and eat up. I made two versions- one using devil’s food cake mix (they taste like Archway Dutch Chocolate Cookies) and the other using white cake mix with lemon and lime zest (they remind me of those evil Lofthouse cookies that I love). I also chose not to throw the dough into powdered sugar. I just sprinkled a little on top before I baked. The results are delicious and since I used fat free Cool Whip, we are talking really light cookies.

These are the lemon/lime cookies. The cookies were the best thing I tried this week.

Did you do anything new this week? Let me know!

Girls Just Wanna…

Have no nail lines. Seriously. Having OCD, I tend to get weird and often silly obsessions. One thing I can’t stand is chipped nails. When I get a chip, I either touch it up or all of the polish is removed. Another is visible nail lines. Makes me insane.  With that said, I want to discuss Deborah Lippmann. Usually her nail polishes are very appealing. The colors are like jewels and I love looking at a Deborah Lippmann display. When I saw Girls Just Want to Have Fun, I believed it was kismet. I love anything coral and Girls Just Want to Have Fun is a beautiful coral creme. Cyndi Lauper is also one of my idols. I swear. Even with all of the orange and pink polishes I have, I needed it. I spent $17 US on nail polish. My name is Jessica and I am a Product Hoochie.

My friend, Lindz of Girl in the Glasses, and I were discussing nail polish and she mentioned that she thought some of the Lippmann glitter polishes and metallics are really good. I told her I would send her a few unused bottles. Why, you ask? Because I have a few Lippmann polishes that are less than stellar. (I fully disclosed this to my buddy and she might just have more luck!) Girls Just Want to Have Fun was really a snap decision. I was using a coupon, it caught my eye, and I had my usual “what the heck?” echoing in my head. When I got home that afternoon, I gave myself a manicure and sent Lindz a picture via Facebook. After three coats, I still had visible nail lines. Still. Three coats of $17 nail polish. Talk about waste. We agreed that Lippmann cremes are not the best choice.

Picture I sent Lindz!

Being fair, I gave myself another manicure today. I started with NailTek Foundation II Ridge-Filling Base Coat. A great base coat, it smooths the nails out and is a bit white so color is more vibrant. Then I applied my first coat of Girls Just Want to Have Fun…

Now, with one coat of polish, seeing the nail lines is acceptable. Onto coat number two…

The color gets brighter and the nail lines are less visible but I can still see them. Insert aggravation here. Onto numero tres.

Still flashing.

Still flashing. Pardon the mess.

I still spy nail lines. But at this point, three coats later on a late Friday afternoon, I really have had enough. I need to pee. I need to write this post. I need to live! I applied my favorite Nails Inc. Caviar Top Coat and hope for the best.  And to be fair, here are two more pictures of my complete manicure. I still need to clean them up but you decide if this polish is worth $17 US. I know what I think!

A Mask for Your Fingers

A few days ago, I did a review on a mask from the Face Shop. The Face Shop is a store that was born in Korea in 2003. They have started to make their way over to our shores fairly recently and I paid them a visit. One of the interesting items I found was the Face It 01 Milk Calcium Nail Pack. Basically, it is a mask for your nails and cuticles.  Since I suffer from brittle nails and dry cuticles, I figured I would give it a try. The  Face It 01 Milk Calcium Nail Pack was about $2.00 US and is in a single use packet. It has colostrums, a very nutrient rich protein from milk, that helps to strengthen the nail,

Does a body good.

Does a body good.

milknail2

I didn’t know what to expect when I cut open the packet for my right hand. Inside were five cloth caps that your put over your each fingernail. They were all generous in size and there is one for the thumb. I washed my hands and then got to it. Putting them on was a bit messy. They had a lot of serum on them so it was a bit difficult, especially when I started to put the caps on my left hand.

Capped off.

Capped off.

At first I was a little disgusted…

Clearly disgusted.

It was also Saturday morning and only one cup of coffee in.

The nail serum was a bit runny and since the caps were saturated, they were a little drippy. I am glad I decided not to do anything, though the website does mention I can get my hair done, and I sat on my couch for 15 minutes watching mindless TV. Once the 15 minutes were up, I removed the masks and rubbed the extra serum into my nails and cuticles. I have to say that my nails did look better. The cuticle area was very soft and my nails kept some shine, even after washing the dishes. I did buy another nail pack and I will give that a try next week.

Have you ever tried a nail mask before?

I Have A Lot of Beauty Boxes to Recycle

There were more. Trust me.

There were more. Trust me.

And I only mean that after I have opened them and emptied the contents! I got FIVE beauty packages in the mail this week. In this post, we will take a gander at my GlossyBox and Birchbox deliveries. In the next post, we need to discuss the HauteLook Summer Beauty bag and a package all the way from someone Short (and Sweet) in Texas. I will give you a quick rundown of each box and then pick and choose the items I really think you need to know about in future posts.  Here we go!

First up is the July GlossyBox, le Grand Bleu, or the Big Blue, or the Grand Indigo (I made that up.) Very disappointing delivery- probably most disappointing of the lot and there was no magazine! Actually, that’s good news because that means things will be looking up from here. There were five products plus a “bonus.” At $21 a month, I deserve a bonus. Unfortunately, I will not use three of them and only one is a full size product and the cheapest in the box.

Okay, okay, give to my sister, okay, throw in travel bag, give to someone that needs it

Okay, give to Cindy, give to my sister, okay, throw in travel bag, give to someone that needs it

The Brazilian Blowout Acai Deep Conditioning Mask will be used up when I need to deep condition. (Remind me to tell you my Rio acai story sometime. I was fun in my 20s!)  Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au the Blanc Shampoo & Shower Gel is the third product from the white tea fragrance line. Though I like the scent, enough alread, my friend Cindy likes the smell and just like I passed off the soap to her, she will get the shower gel. Nails Inc. Baker Street Nail Polish may look like a regular bottle but it is small and I know because I already own it. My sister is lucky. That girl ends up with everything. Figs & Rouge Cherry Blossom Tinted Balm Tube is full size and is $9 US. I thought it was an L’Occitane hand cream. Nope. I will use it since I like the way the tube looks. My “bonus” is Nicka K New York Absolute! Make-Up Cleansing towelettes. I have said it before and I will say it again- they sell this brand at my local beauty supply and the make-up runs around $3 US on average. Lastly is the Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum. I rarely get acne and I like my good old tea tree to handle that.  I am not impressed with this month’s selections- they are way too run of the mill and small!

Every year, the Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) have the Insiders’ Beauty Awards. Birchbox curated two boxes of winners. They were recently on sale- $26 for both. I thought that was pretty good and had some points left, so I managed to score both for $23.31. I’ll start with the Prestige Headliners – Birchbox for CEW. Originally priced at $18 US, this little box had the stuff you could buy at Sephora or a department store.

Birchbox Presige Box

Birchbox Prestige Headliners

Since there are so many, I’ll list:

-IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil (might be a full size- Sam over at Samandro22 got me into filling in my brows!)

-Living Proof Prime Style Extender (Decent sized tube. Eh.)

-Julep Nail Color in Teri (It’s a full bottle!)

-Julep Essential Cuticle Oil (Another biggie! For my dry cuticles, I need a miracle.)

-Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Triple Defense Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 50 (“Deluxe”Sample)

-La Fresh Eco-Beauty Oil-Free Face Cleanser, Scented (2 wipes. I’m cool with that.)

Next is the Birchbox for CEW Mass Market Finalists. This box is a treasure trove of drugstore finds and I have only tried two out of the six! Five of the products are full size, making for a great value.

On the cheap.

On the cheap.

-Olay Pro-X Spot Fading Treatment (Sample tube but it should last a bit because you only use a few drops at a time.)

-Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey (Love these!)

-L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in #557 Glistening Garnet (I hope it is way better than the Armani Eyes to Kill one I bought.)

-Burt’s Bees Ultimate Care Hand Cream (Full size tube- since I finished my most recent favorite, I will try this next.)

-Nivea A Kiss of Olive OIl & Lemon Moisture Rich Lip Care (Finally! My favorite balm is LaBello- it is Nivea in the States and this flavor is more European!)

-Simple Revitalizing Eye Roll-On (I love eye rolls…)

What do you think? I have a lot of work ahead of me, huh?

Friday Night Beauty

Welcome to the weekend!  After writing about my husband’s shaving habits yesterday with #hydformen and knowing I have a pretty jammed packed Saturday and a probably busy enough Sunday, I figured tonight I would take care of some grooming. I started off with my eyebrows. I do them myself- I hate getting them waxed and I prefer to pluck and trim them on my own. I start by combing them up so the longs ones stand out and then I trim with an eyebrow scissor by Sally Hansen. Once I am trimmed on top, I pluck the ends with my beloved Tweezerman. My eyebrows have a decent shape so a good clean up every week or so is all I need. I don’t have a uni-brow so I don’t have to deal with it. I might test out some eyebrow powder tomorrow to fill in the sparse spots which I think are more evident in photos or it could just be the fact that I just ignore them.

Giving myself a haircut.

Giving myself a haircut.

Once I was done plucking, I washed my face with my favorite Moody Sisters Foaming Wash and then applied NUXE Paris Masque Creme Fraiche de Beaute. (That is missing all sorts of accent marks. Just saying.) It is a 24 hour soothing mask that hydrates skin. Truth is I was afraid to try it. I will now have to buy it. I applied it and left it on for about 40 minutes (The website says ten minutes. Like I ever pay attention. My little sample tube had no instructions.) It smells like oolong tea and jasmine. As it penetrated my face, it got a bit oily so I got a wash cloth and gently removed it. My skin is so soft right now that I might actually have to buy this.

You do want to touch my face. It's a little scary.

You do want to touch my face. It’s a little scary.

My last step was painting my nails. I did go for a manicure and pedicure this week but the polish started to chip and look blah so I took it all off. At least my cuticles look good and my nails kept their shape. I painted on a coat of NailTek Foundation II and then two coats of Revlon Color Stay Longwear Nail Enamel in Trade Winds. On my ring finger, I applied two coats of P2 Sand Style Polish in Strict. (Thanks to Girl in the Glasses!) I love this sand polish because it had a shiny application and I don’t mind it shiny. Then I used Nails Inc. Nail Caviar Topcooat (dries polish in 45 seconds!)  Here is what I got!

Conservative with a little edge.

Conservative with a little edge.

My hubs put on “Battleship.” I figured out the entire plot in the first five minutes (maybe less) and then the whole reason why I would even watch the movie got killed off. Right now, I see water and smoke on my TV screen. And a pretty blonde.

What did you do tonight? I hope you were out and carousing!

I’m a Model. You know what I mean.

Hey dolls! In my last post, I showed you a bunch of cosmetics that my mom and sister bought me while they were in London. Today I have my first review! After reading a bunch of blogs over the past year, I was especially loving Models Own nail polish and super jealous I can’t find it stateside. One of my requests was a Models Own polish, though I wrote “Models Inc.” and eventually realized that was a bad TV show geared toward tweens and teens in the early 90s. Anyway, my sister picked up  Models Own Artstix Nail Polish Duo in Utopia Ocean. I gave myself a very quick manicure on Wednesday.

Models Own Artstix Nail Polish Duos are dual ended and combine popular colors with popular nail effects. The Paint it! side is the base color and the Cover it! side is the special effects topcoat.

Utopia Ocean- Paint It! in Utopia and Cover It! in Indian Ocean

Utopia Ocean- Paint it! in Utopia and Cover it! in Indian Ocean

I started with a base coat of NailTek Ridge Filling Base Coat Foundation II. My nails are very brittle and can have ridges so this helps smooth them out. I topped off my full manicure with my favorite Nails Inc. London Caviar Topcoat. I put them together in the picture because I have a few photos for you.

From bottom to top.

From bottom to top.

I then did one coat of Utopia on my nails. The color is a light gray but with a bit of lilac so it really doesn’t look like cement- it is softer. It was a little streaky but I was pressed for time and figured the Cover it! side would hide a bit of the streakiness. (Is “streakiness” even a word? It should be!) I gave it a minute or two of dry time and then started to apply the nail effects Cover it! in Indian Ocean. I loved the effect of the topcoat and though it covered a great deal of streaks, I did need to retouch a few nails. Why not do it right the first time, Jessica?!

Left is only Utopia and the right is Utopia with Indian Ocean topcoat

Left is only Utopia and the right is Utopia with Indian Ocean topcoat

They were total Monets- looked good from far away but up close…

Anyhoo, take a look at my thumbnail. Half is just Utopia and the other is Utopia with Indian Ocean. Indian Ocean adds some great shimmer and this picture gives it no justice.

I'm all thumbs.

I’m all thumbs.

I topped my nails with Caviar Topcoat because I have no patience and nails that dry in 45 seconds are my style. Here is the final look. Mind you, I did not clean them up.

Flash on top (Get it? Teehee)

Flash on top (Get it? Teehee) Bottom picture is a bit prudish.

Since it is Saturday, I want to tell you that I did notice a few chips yesterday but not really awful. Besides, I need to get over chipped polish. I really do. It’s terrible.

This is my right hand. My left held up a bit better.

This is my right hand. My left held up a bit better.

Okay, I’ll give you my left!

See?

See?

I love the color of this polish. Shazzer, my sister, and I went to see Cyndi Lauper that same Wednesday and I showed her my manicure. She said, “It is so pretty and caught my eye. I should have bought myself one!”

I think Models Own Artstix Nail Polish Duos are really great and offer creative combinations. If you can get ’em, buy ’em!

Ipsy! GlossyBox! I Don’t Know What To Do With Myself!

Okay, okay. I am a bit late on my ipsy review. I find blogging has been a bit difficult as of late. I have been running around like crazy and am rarely home. I try to fit in a bit here or there but you know the deal: life gets in the way. I like living so I try to cram in as much  as possible. This weekend is no exception. The hubs and I had two parties yesterday, one today, and we were invited to another. I never thought I would be this popular. Anyway, I received my ipsy bag last week and my GlossyBox yesterday. I am meshing the two together.

My ipsy delivery was better this month than in the recent past. The bag is adorably cute with its chevron design and summery colors.

Love the bag!

Love the bag!

I scored two Pacifica products : the Coconut Crushed Pearl Bronzing Body Butter and Island Vanilla Perfume Roll-On . I enjoy using the Pacifica body butters and Coconut Crushed Pearl Bronzing Body Butter ($7 US/ 2 oz, $24 US/ 8 oz) will make me glow and shimmer. This is NOT a gradual tanner so it will wash off. The Island Vanilla Perfume Roll-On ($12 US) could be considered a gourmand scent but it isn’t super sweet or strong. In fact, it is more of a floral than an uber sticky, gooey vanilla. It is totally summer appropriate but isn’t very long lasting.

I smell like cake.

I smell like cake.

A few bags back, subscribers received a magnetized palette with two magnetic eye shadows by Yaby. This month, there is a Yaby magnetized concealer in Honey. It is tiny and I am not sure how much use I will get out of it. (Refill pan $4.85 US)

Hide out.

\ Hide out.

A big draw this month was the full size bottle of Zoya polish ($8 US). I got Blu from the recent Spring collection in my bag and it isn’t a shade I am particularly fond of. It looks chalky and I find that Zoya’s creams aren’t very good. I would have preferred a metallic.

I'm blue.

I’m blue.

I do love the Mirabella Colour Sheer Lipstick ($22 US). Daydream looks very light but it enhances my lips. The color is very sheer– do not expect serious pigmentation. It also needs to be reapplied quite a bit.

Dream on.

Dream on.

GlossyBox just celebrated its one year anniversary stateside. Needless to say, I thought the anniversary box would rock. I am curious to see what you think…

My love letter

The packages always come wrapped in ribbon.

I stop myself from reading the card first.

I stop myself from reading the card first.

The first thing you see when opening the box is the GlossyBox Mag. To tell you the truth, I always think the small articles are superficial and poorly written. I have found typos, too. (We all make mistake but this is going out to thousands of people that pay for the subscription service.) I kind of wish they would save trees and not include the magazine. It takes me all of five minutes to read and I almost feel like I do out of obligation, considering I still read cereal boxes.

mag

There is an etre belle Collagen & Aloe Vera Hydro Mask. The single use packet hydrates and improves elasticity. I gave away the last single use mask and might try this one. I’m not exactly looking for more hydration and I’m not terribly concerned about elasticity yet. ($39.50 US/ 10 masks)

We wear the masks.

We wear the masks.

The European Wax Center sent over a complimentary waxing service. I need to get my brows done so I am hoping there is one nearby. There are two tiny samples of The Exfoliate and Slow It Body Wash. I might get one use out of each.

Tiny.

Tiny.

I also finally got a hair product I can use. Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray Volume Building Spray Gel will make my hair ginormous and soft. I love big hair, especially when I go out on the town. My curls will enjoy this. ($19.95 US/ 5.07 FL OZ)

The bigger the hair, the smaller the hips. (Not really.)

The bigger the hair, the smaller the hips. (Not really.)

Being greasy, I was excited to see My Prime Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer. I currently use the men’s one from Kiehl’s and I love it but this claims to provied intense hydration and anti-aging benefits while creating a matte, flawless finish. It also works as a primer. I’ll give it a go. ($68 US/ 60 ML)

There is also a really cute compact of AMOREPACIFIC Color Control Cushion Compact. The small compact multitasks with SPF, deep hydration, and complete coverage. The only problem- the color is too deep for my complexion. I’m not even sure if I can use it during the summer. ($60 US/ 15 G & 15 G Refill)

Te Amo

Love and a Primer

The ONLY full size product this month is a Nicka K New York Absolute! Perfume Stick in Parc de 59. The tube packaging is really pretty and the product tries to evoke the sophistication of NYC. It smells similar to Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea Parfum.  Here is the rub- GlossyBox tells that retail is $14.99 US. I beg to differ. I have purchased Nicka K cosmetics in a beauty supply store for $1.99. I have also purchased some items in the dollar store. Don’t get me wrong- the products are not bad but I can’t see this perfume stick being worth $14.99. Call me a skeptic.

There was also a fact printed on the outer tube.

There was also a fact printed on the outer tube.

The ipsy bag was a decent value this month with three full size products but I expected way more from GlossyBox, especially for an anniversary box. It is no wonder why GlossyBox is giving incentives to join. A six month subscription was recently only $90 US. If these subscription services aren’t careful, they may fail. I see a downgrade in products since my initial shipments.

If you are interested in signing up for a subscription (GlossyBox, ipsy, or BirchBox), please drop me a line at producthoochie@gmail.com  and I will send you a referral code. I am beginning to wonder if beauty subscriptions are worth it but if you want to try them, go on ahead.

Easter Egg Hunt!

Easter eggs // Ostereier

Easter eggs // Ostereier (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

As a kid, I never actually got to do an Easter egg hunt. Living in Brooklyn, I guess there wasn’t necessarily a place to have one. I am surprised that my Grandma Helen never hid eggs around her house- maybe she did once or twice- but I’m not bitter. <<Grumbles>> One thing that my Grandma Helen did do was make the most vibrant Easter eggs one would ever see. She had egg dying down to an art form. She used deep cups and food coloring- none of those Easter egg kits. My sister and I never dyed eggs with her. It was an unspoken rule that she did that and my mom always made sure that we dyed eggs at our house. And her Easter eggs were beautiful. From robin’s egg blue to Persian green to hot pink, Grandma Helen would carefully watch the eggs as the color developed and removed them as soon as they were bright and the colors were deep. She once even made a neon yellow egg. Don’t ask me how but it seemed to be a color  ahead of its time.

Easter eggs

Easter eggs (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I don’t do Easter eggs. I tried last year and managed to crack more hard boiled eggs than dye them. I did create a springy Easter egg nail. I used a similar method to that of the Irish flag I painted two weeks ago. I started with Duri Cosmetics Rejuvacote. I have very weak and brittle nails and though this is not 3-free, it seems  to be the only nail product that works for me. I then applied Wet n Wild Megalast Salon Nail color in On a Trip, an amethyst. I like the Megalast polishes. The brushes are weird but I find the nail polishes to go on nice and easy. I painted on two coats and then added a third a day later, as it looked a little streaky. I just left my ring fingers alone. Now the fun begins…

The Base!

The Base!

Purple & Blue!

Purple & Blue!

Using Scotch tape, I taped 1/3 of my ring fingernails. I applied Julep Nail Vernis in Blake, a pale yellow to the bottom portion of my ring fingernails. Then I waited and applied a second coat of Blake. Once I felt it was dry (always dangerous), I taped the upper portion of the nails and applied two coats of Sephora by OPI Nail Color in Slushied (see above). It is a deeper sky blue and from  the Glee collection. It probably is no longer available. I finally was able to do the nail tips in Sweet by Zoya Professional Lacquer, a creamy, “Pepto” pink. To cover the spaces between the colors, I carefully painted two strips of silver micro-glitter with Hurricane Paint, a thin brush nail art polish. I let the nails air dry for a bit and applied Nails Inc. London Kensington Caviar Gel Effect Plumping Top Coat. My usual Kensingon Caviar Top Coat is really almost gone and I picked up the new version. It is not as good as the original. I am on the hunt!

Pink, Yellow, and Caviar?!

Pink, Yellow, Glitter,  and Caviar?!

The final look…

Too Many Beauty Boxes!

I bet you thought I would never say that, huh? I think I am at the point where I am getting too much stuff. I already have too much stuff, so to add on more is just a nightmare. I just might have to do another beauty giveaway- le sigh. Scuttling along, I received two beauty boxes this week- one from GlossyBox and the other from FabFitFun or fff by Giuliana Rancic. I know she has really overcome some obstacles but I have a hard time buying products endorsed by “celebrities.” She has plenty of dough and when I tell you the price of the box, you will understand why.

It's in the box(es)!

It’s in the box(es)!

I will start with the ever familiar GlossyBox. I waited FOREVER to get the March box. Ridiculous. After the January Man-Repeller box, they have started to go downhill. I think people in Europe would not take this crap- neither did this New Yorker, but more on that later. I love the way GlossyBox packages the items. It is always pretty and tied up neatly with a bow. Too bad I tear into it, practically with my teeth. This month’s theme is “Spring Fling” which would be fabulous if spring would hurry up and get here already.

Thinned out box!

Thinned out box!

Elite Models Liner in Matt Brown: A liquid eyeliner from France (ooh-la-la), touts to be waterproof and long lasting. It has a brush applicator and you can draw on thin or thick lines depending on your preference. ($15 US)

ModelCo Cheek + Lip Tint in Rosy Red: This looks like a little paint tube. Adorable! Dab the product on cheeks or lips and tap with fingertips. You can do a sheer wash of color or layer it for more impact. ( $24 US)

PIXI Lid Last Shadow Pen in Mocha Mauve: I thought mine was missing. I called GlossyBox. They are sending me a new one. I found the one that I thought was missing. I also mentioned how disappointed I was about the shipping. I got “we are so inundated…” I just said, “Maybe you should have started smaller…” Anyhoo,  I hope I get another color… Looks like a chubby pencil (these seem to be all the rage now) and can be used as a shadow, liner, or highlighter depending  on the shade. ($18 US)

I once was lost. But now I'm found.

I once was lost. But now I’m found.

Prestiche Essential Oil Bar Soap in Lathernder (get it? lather?): Lavender scented soap that is supposed to be good even for the most sensitive skin. That seems to be me at the moment. The scent was very strong initially but has seemed to calm down. ($16.99 US)

Sebastian Professional Shaper Fierce Finishing Hairspray: Great. Another hairspray that I won’t use ever. I have to give all of these samples to my aunt so she can use them at work. ($17 US)

I received three out the five products in full size- the eyeliner, the tint, and the PIXI stick. The rest are all “deluxe.” Prices indicate a full size product.

Now, onto FabFitFun. I bought the VIP box (and you know I wouldn’t win one of the possible extra prizes, right?) and it was about $35 US. fff boxes come quarterly and cost about $50 US a box. I happened to catch the first box on a coupon code and knew that there would be a product in there retailed at about $40. 35 bucks was a steal, no?

Giuliana Rancic at the 81st Academy Awards (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Hi, my fellow Product Hoochies!

I got a note from Giuliana Rancic, telling about the inaugural box and the ideals behind fff– beauty, fashion, fitness, wellness, and health. So lets see what I got, shall we?

I love the compartments. My OCD is singing!

Starting with the obvious…

MoroccanOil: This oil is NOT organic and has some argan oil in it, but not  a whole bunch. I used this as my first foray into hair oils. I am currently running low on my bottle of pure stuff- I will get to this next. ($43 US/ 3.4 oz bottle)

Go Smile On the Go Whitening Pen:  My first “exclusive bonus gift” for being an fff VIP-Twist and apply anywhere for whiter teeth. I wonder if using this in public is more attractive than applying lipstick. Hmmm… ($22 US)

Zoya Nail Polish by FabFitFun: I like Zoya polish, particularly metallics or glitter. fff sent us their signature color- a lovely metallic fuschia. Maybe it is more magenta- it’s pretty whatever it is! ($8 US)

Tips and lips!

Tips and lips!

Butter London Nail Lacquer in Wallis: I almost bought this myself a few weeks ago. Phew! My sister misses out though, since she gets my extras. The color is “tarnished, metallic olive gold,” according to Butter London’s website. This also was my second “exclusive bonus” item for being a VIP. Not too bad! ($15 US)

Jouer Lip Gloss in Glisten: I happen to love Jouer gloss. They are so soft and pretty and feel so good on the lips. The only bad thing is their staying power. They don’t take a licking and keep on ticking. I received a mini which is fine since I might already have this color. ($20/Full Size Tube)

JewelMint Jewels: I received earrings and a ring. The ring is nice and heavy. It fits my pinkie and though it is quite large, looks pretty cool. The earrings feel really light but I like the color scheme- greens and blues. My only gripe- the ring is gold tone and the earrings are silver tone. I know some people don’t care but I can’t wear them together. I just won’t. (I refuse to sign up for an account but there is a code for two pieces at $29.99 US.)

I love the compartments. No muss, no fuss.

Rings on her fingers and bells… on her ears?

Think Thin Bar in Creamy Peanut Butter: The story of my life. ($1.99 US/ one bar)

Peanut Butter!

Peanut Butter!

Doing the math (or barely doing the math), the MoroccanOil alone covers the price that I paid for the fff box. I am pretty impressed with the contents. I might give away the Go Smile stuff because my teeth are sensitive but the rest will get used up in no time.

Now the big question: Should I cancel GlossyBox, let my Birch Box subscription die, wear out ipsy, and just do FabFitFun four times a year? Thoughts? I might do one more fff box just to make sure. I need opinions!

Keep Calm & Primp On! XOXO
