Update!

Where have I been? If you were wondering, I have some new info…
My husband and I moved back in November. My blogging slowed down in the months before because of packing, back to work, etc. We finally got into our new place mid-November. After about a week, I noticed that our neighbor was very loud. So loud, that I could hear every word of Rihanna’s greatest hits. I asked her about it kindly and she was so nasty. The second time, I actually put in a noise complaint with NYC. We also spoke to our landlord.

Though it got a little better, I then had to worry if I would hear her screaming- at anyone or thing. One afternoon, I heard her fighting with a male- screaming back and forth. A few days later, the music started up. Again. My husband and I looked at each other and decided it was time to move. We lived in the apartment for two months.
My mother-in-law happily took us in and we moved this past Thursday.
I can only imagine the next few weeks are going to be busy between unpacking and getting settled. At this point, I will probably be taking a break and it will be for some time. As much as I love my products, I also love my sanity!

I hope to be able to back soon and miss you all!

Wanna-Be London Girl

My sister, Shazzer, and my Mom, returned from their trip to London last week. My mom came over yesterday and brought me a bunch of goodies from across the pond. I just took some quick pictures and I really can’t wait to start trying everything! Shazzer and Mom are the best!

When I visited England in 2005, I got to visit Portobello Market. I loved all of the cool items they had for sale and bought a military jacket and great amber earrings. My mom remembered my fondness for the colorful street and brought my presents in this…

Kids did the designs for the bag. As a teacher, I can really appreciate their talent.

A 9 year old created the design. As a teacher, I can really appreciate their talent. Note my thigh. At least I shaved.

Portobello Market is in Notting Hill, I think!

I had a few cosmetic requests and almost fainted when I saw Shannon was in Poundland. She picked me up a few things from there, as well as some Barry M. and a lipstick from 17.

I'm so glad I have this sparkly goodness in another color, too. There is a Barry M. eye pencil, 17 lipstick, a lip balm, and nail polish. I need to use one. NOW.

More glitter!

More glitter!

I don’t know what Chit-Chat Mascara is but I will soon find out!

Cheaper than Armani- even with the exchange.

I also got some pretty eye shadows. The neutral palette looks like it has a primer with two colors. I had a powder from Collection 2000 from my trip to Ireland. It is long since gone but I can’t wait to try this lime eye shadow.

Mix and match?

Mix and match?

For my nails, a Bewitched glitter polish and Barry M. polish that mimics a lightening bug.

Glitter and glow.

Glitter and glow.

I requested a magazine, too, and when I can pick up British Glamour here in the States, I do. They picked up Glamour for me. It was two British pound sterling, which comes to $2.99 USD. Magazines are at least $3.99 US AND they never come with ModelCo. Lip Gloss which retails for $16 US. US publications better get a clue. Just sayin’.

And Daniel Radcliffe.

And Daniel Radcliffe.

When I was in Dublin, I bought a purse by Paul’s Boutique. My sister knows I love the fun and quirky style of Paul’s Boutique bags so she picked up this really cute wallet. The chain is just really funky and I can’t wait to use all of the crazy buttons. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

We finally get Paul's Boutique in the USA. The original PB website ships to the US and ASOS also carries the line.

My sister had a few things on her “bucket list.” One was riding the London Eye. I scored a mirror on a key chain. It will get a lot of use. More than I should admit.

Eye told you.

Eye told you.

And then… Shazzer and Mom went to see Robbie Williams! He very rarely plays in NYC and my sister managed to purchase tickets.

And all I got was this lousy key chain...

I love all of my presents! I am sure there will be a few reviews soon. A special thanks to Shazzer and Mom for going on a make-up hunt and fueling my product hoochie-ness!

GlossyBox a No Go

Why is it that when I buy a beauty subscription it seems to go downhill? I apologize to those of you that have ordered a GlossyBox subscription since my raves. The last few I received were not that great, with the exception of the Man Repeller box. Man Repeller curated an excellent box. Maybe I am being too hard on GlossyBox. I mean, they are fairly new stateside and are better than Birch Box (and maybe ipsy, too) but at $21 a month, the cost of both ipsy and Birch Box combined.

The one thing GlossyBox does differently is that there is a magazine included. I find a number of editing problems in the publication and I rarely find the products in my GlossyBox being featured in with tips and tricks.

Glossy Mag!

There is also the postcard with the list of products. February’s theme is “International Style.” I think they followed through.

Postcard is airmail. Soap keeps you clean.

BVLGARI Eau Parfumee Au The Blanc Soap: I stayed at Le Blanc Spa Resort in Cancun during my honeymoon. I loved it there. In the bath, there were Bvlgari The Blanc products. It smelled clean and delightful. The scent of the soap is very strong and the entire box is fragrant… a little too fragrant. I’m not even sure I can use such a strongly perfumed product. (Full Size $30 US)

Nail Rock Nail Wraps: I like Nail Wraps. These are a but more funky and a little scary. Mine have eyeballs and ghosts. (Full Set $8 US)

Maybe I will save these for Halloween.

Missha Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Hydro Gel Mask: I have no idea what this does. The ingredients make me a little nervous. It is supposed to be healing. I’ll let you know. (One packet $6 US)

Escargot for my face.

Da Vinci Cosmetics Shimmer Powder in Wild Lilac: This pigment is a pretty purple. It really is meant to be used as a highlighter. I rarely go for loose mineral pigments- way too messy- but I might try this. (Full Size $15 US)

Da Vinci will paint my face.

LISI Sheer Sparkle Lip Gloss in Bryant Park: A glittery pink,  though I’m not quite sure how pigmented, as glitter gloss is not necessarily something I normally would wear. Maybe I will throw it on this weekend. (Full Size $7 US)

LISI on the lips.

LISI on the lips.

All in all, I guess this month’s box isn’t all that terrible. At least there are three full size products, not counting the Missha mask. I also feel like some of the products, like the pigment and gloss, really aren’t for me. I’m also not so sure about the Nail Rocks, too. I like fun nails but these just aren’t my style. We will see what gets delivered at the end of the month.

Lovely Lady of Literature #1

Hello, my darlings! Hope all is well. With the weekend coming up, I decided to suggest you do some reading. And no, I am not talking about any shade of gray. I recently read the book Descendent, by L.J. Amodeo. I will admit, I know L.J. and kind of harassed her so I could read the pre-edited version. SHE LET ME! I immediately was sucked into the story of Elizabeth, a young woman gifted with the ability to hear those in the other world. Here is the blurb from Amazon:

Seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Anne Morgan is no stranger to the paranormal world. Haunted by voices and visions for most of her young life, she begins to question her sanity as a teen, setting her apart as an outcast in school. In quatrains and sacred manuscripts, a Chosen One is prophesied, yet Elizabeth does not know she is the descendant of the holiest woman who ever walked the earth. The whispers and cries, meant for her mind only, are those of lost souls pleading to be liberated by the true holder of the key. In her senior year of high school, Elizabeth meets two new strangers, both who know her secret and who turn her world upside down. Meanwhile, her only friend Freddie, loyal, devoted and secretly in love with her, stands quietly in the shadows of her life as she begins to unfold the mystery of who she is destined to become.

The gorgeous cover! This book should be on your shelf!

Of course I had to get the edited version once it was available for my Kindle and I read it again and TOTALLY DID NOT MIND! In fact, once I finished… ugh!!! Hurry up, L.J., I need a sequel. Some parts of the book involve some fantastic fashionable moments and so, as the PH, I needed to so do Elizabeth’s make-up.

Elizabeth is a good person that suffers with the feeling of being alone. I imagine her as fair, with light, curly hair. She complains about her hair, so after washing she should apply some Quidad Climate Control Anti Heat and Humidity Gel. A scrunch here and there and she is done. Since she is only 18, Elizabeth probably has a few skin blemishes and is probably a bit oily. Bare Minerals Original SPF 15 Foundation in Fairly Light will cover imperfections and provides sun protection while keeping oil at bay.

I can’t imagine Elizabeth has a lot of time to do her make-up, so Maybelline’s Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24 HR Cream Gel Shadow in Bad to the Bronze is good for day when applied with a light hand.  Pomegranate Punk is a plum-pink shade that would work great for evenings. These eye shadows are fabulous because you don’t need to use a primer. For her lashes, she of course needs to first curl with her Shu Uemura eyelash curler and apply Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara. One coat creates tons of fringe! To highlight her pretty features, Elizabeth could use Sephora’s Nano Eye pencil in Pure Beige. She can add some to the corners of her eyes and how her brow bones so she looks lit from within.

Elizabeth needs a rosy glow, too. Those Upstate New York winters can make you so pale! I think NARS Orgasm blush would do the trick. A cult product, it adds a flush with a little bit of gold shimmer. For her lips, Elizabeth needs to carry any Burt’s Bees lip balm. For every day wear, Sephora’s Rouge Cream Lipstick in Decollete, a warm pinkish beige is perfect. For a night on the town or on a hot date (just wait until you read!) Sephora’s Rouge Cream Lipstick in Hot Tango, a bright pink red, will make her sizzle.

Kissed by an angel.

Kissed by an angel- this is Hot Tango.

As a final touch, I would lend Elizabeth a spritz or two of my Byredo Seven Veils perfume. (I needed a Biblical reference somewhere!) Seven Veils has top notes of carrot and pimento Berries, a heart of Tahitian vanilla flower, Laurier rose, glycine, tiger orchid, and a base of sandalwood and vanilla bean.

Perfume in the Biblical sense.

Perfume in the Biblical sense.

With this in Elizabeth’s arsenal, she will be ready to conquer the world!
