Wanna-Be London Girl

My sister, Shazzer, and my Mom, returned from their trip to London last week. My mom came over yesterday and brought me a bunch of goodies from across the pond. I just took some quick pictures and I really can’t wait to start trying everything! Shazzer and Mom are the best!

When I visited England in 2005, I got to visit Portobello Market. I loved all of the cool items they had for sale and bought a military jacket and great amber earrings. My mom remembered my fondness for the colorful street and brought my presents in this…

Kids did the designs for the bag. As a teacher, I can really appreciate their talent.

A 9 year old created the design. As a teacher, I can really appreciate their talent. Note my thigh. At least I shaved.

Portobello Market is in Notting Hill, I think!

I had a few cosmetic requests and almost fainted when I saw Shannon was in Poundland. She picked me up a few things from there, as well as some Barry M. and a lipstick from 17.

I'm so glad I have this sparkly goodness in another color, too. There is a Barry M. eye pencil, 17 lipstick, a lip balm, and nail polish. I need to use one. NOW.

More glitter!

More glitter!

I don’t know what Chit-Chat Mascara is but I will soon find out!

Cheaper than Armani- even with the exchange.

I also got some pretty eye shadows. The neutral palette looks like it has a primer with two colors. I had a powder from Collection 2000 from my trip to Ireland. It is long since gone but I can’t wait to try this lime eye shadow.

Mix and match?

Mix and match?

For my nails, a Bewitched glitter polish and Barry M. polish that mimics a lightening bug.

Glitter and glow.

Glitter and glow.

I requested a magazine, too, and when I can pick up British Glamour here in the States, I do. They picked up Glamour for me. It was two British pound sterling, which comes to $2.99 USD. Magazines are at least $3.99 US AND they never come with ModelCo. Lip Gloss which retails for $16 US. US publications better get a clue. Just sayin’.

And Daniel Radcliffe.

And Daniel Radcliffe.

When I was in Dublin, I bought a purse by Paul’s Boutique. My sister knows I love the fun and quirky style of Paul’s Boutique bags so she picked up this really cute wallet. The chain is just really funky and I can’t wait to use all of the crazy buttons. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

We finally get Paul's Boutique in the USA. The original PB website ships to the US and ASOS also carries the line.

My sister had a few things on her “bucket list.” One was riding the London Eye. I scored a mirror on a key chain. It will get a lot of use. More than I should admit.

Eye told you.

Eye told you.

And then… Shazzer and Mom went to see Robbie Williams! He very rarely plays in NYC and my sister managed to purchase tickets.

And all I got was this lousy key chain...

I love all of my presents! I am sure there will be a few reviews soon. A special thanks to Shazzer and Mom for going on a make-up hunt and fueling my product hoochie-ness!

Ipsy! GlossyBox! I Don’t Know What To Do With Myself!

Okay, okay. I am a bit late on my ipsy review. I find blogging has been a bit difficult as of late. I have been running around like crazy and am rarely home. I try to fit in a bit here or there but you know the deal: life gets in the way. I like living so I try to cram in as much  as possible. This weekend is no exception. The hubs and I had two parties yesterday, one today, and we were invited to another. I never thought I would be this popular. Anyway, I received my ipsy bag last week and my GlossyBox yesterday. I am meshing the two together.

My ipsy delivery was better this month than in the recent past. The bag is adorably cute with its chevron design and summery colors.

Love the bag!

Love the bag!

I scored two Pacifica products : the Coconut Crushed Pearl Bronzing Body Butter and Island Vanilla Perfume Roll-On . I enjoy using the Pacifica body butters and Coconut Crushed Pearl Bronzing Body Butter ($7 US/ 2 oz, $24 US/ 8 oz) will make me glow and shimmer. This is NOT a gradual tanner so it will wash off. The Island Vanilla Perfume Roll-On ($12 US) could be considered a gourmand scent but it isn’t super sweet or strong. In fact, it is more of a floral than an uber sticky, gooey vanilla. It is totally summer appropriate but isn’t very long lasting.

I smell like cake.

I smell like cake.

A few bags back, subscribers received a magnetized palette with two magnetic eye shadows by Yaby. This month, there is a Yaby magnetized concealer in Honey. It is tiny and I am not sure how much use I will get out of it. (Refill pan $4.85 US)

Hide out.

\ Hide out.

A big draw this month was the full size bottle of Zoya polish ($8 US). I got Blu from the recent Spring collection in my bag and it isn’t a shade I am particularly fond of. It looks chalky and I find that Zoya’s creams aren’t very good. I would have preferred a metallic.

I'm blue.

I’m blue.

I do love the Mirabella Colour Sheer Lipstick ($22 US). Daydream looks very light but it enhances my lips. The color is very sheer– do not expect serious pigmentation. It also needs to be reapplied quite a bit.

Dream on.

Dream on.

GlossyBox just celebrated its one year anniversary stateside. Needless to say, I thought the anniversary box would rock. I am curious to see what you think…

The packages always come wrapped in ribbon.

I stop myself from reading the card first.

I stop myself from reading the card first.

The first thing you see when opening the box is the GlossyBox Mag. To tell you the truth, I always think the small articles are superficial and poorly written. I have found typos, too. (We all make mistake but this is going out to thousands of people that pay for the subscription service.) I kind of wish they would save trees and not include the magazine. It takes me all of five minutes to read and I almost feel like I do out of obligation, considering I still read cereal boxes.

There is an etre belle Collagen & Aloe Vera Hydro Mask. The single use packet hydrates and improves elasticity. I gave away the last single use mask and might try this one. I’m not exactly looking for more hydration and I’m not terribly concerned about elasticity yet. ($39.50 US/ 10 masks)

We wear the masks.

We wear the masks.

The European Wax Center sent over a complimentary waxing service. I need to get my brows done so I am hoping there is one nearby. There are two tiny samples of The Exfoliate and Slow It Body Wash. I might get one use out of each.

Tiny.

Tiny.

I also finally got a hair product I can use. Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray Volume Building Spray Gel will make my hair ginormous and soft. I love big hair, especially when I go out on the town. My curls will enjoy this. ($19.95 US/ 5.07 FL OZ)

The bigger the hair, the smaller the hips. (Not really.)

Being greasy, I was excited to see My Prime Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer. I currently use the men’s one from Kiehl’s and I love it but this claims to provied intense hydration and anti-aging benefits while creating a matte, flawless finish. It also works as a primer. I’ll give it a go. ($68 US/ 60 ML)

There is also a really cute compact of AMOREPACIFIC Color Control Cushion Compact. The small compact multitasks with SPF, deep hydration, and complete coverage. The only problem- the color is too deep for my complexion. I’m not even sure if I can use it during the summer. ($60 US/ 15 G & 15 G Refill)

Love and a Primer

The ONLY full size product this month is a Nicka K New York Absolute! Perfume Stick in Parc de 59. The tube packaging is really pretty and the product tries to evoke the sophistication of NYC. It smells similar to Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea Parfum.  Here is the rub- GlossyBox tells that retail is $14.99 US. I beg to differ. I have purchased Nicka K cosmetics in a beauty supply store for $1.99. I have also purchased some items in the dollar store. Don’t get me wrong- the products are not bad but I can’t see this perfume stick being worth $14.99. Call me a skeptic.

There was also a fact printed on the outer tube.

There was also a fact printed on the outer tube.

The ipsy bag was a decent value this month with three full size products but I expected way more from GlossyBox, especially for an anniversary box. It is no wonder why GlossyBox is giving incentives to join. A six month subscription was recently only $90 US. If these subscription services aren’t careful, they may fail. I see a downgrade in products since my initial shipments.

If you are interested in signing up for a subscription (GlossyBox, ipsy, or BirchBox), please drop me a line at producthoochie@gmail.com  and I will send you a referral code. I am beginning to wonder if beauty subscriptions are worth it but if you want to try them, go on ahead.

Man Repelling Birch Box?!

Okay, okay… I have had my GlossyBox for over two weeks and I really couldn’t try anything because I got sick. Today, I’m going to empty two subscriptions boxes with one lipstick swipe- GlossyBox The Man Repeller Edition and Birch Box February.

I ordered the Man Repeller curated box because MR it is a cool blog about fashion- it’s a little twisted which is why I like it. GlossyBox has shipping issues. Boxes come late, I am always worried I won’t get it, customer service is pretty impossible, and having OCD, I worry someone has managed to mess with my subscription and credit card. Paranoia aside, I got my GlossyBox on a Saturday morning. Actually, I got two of them.

The GlossyBox magazine, squared.

The GlossyBox magazine, squared.

Two, you ask? Yes, I was pretty curious as to why I got two boxes and of course, I thought they charged me twice. They didn’t- GlossyBox sent out an email, assuring that subscribers were not charged for the second box and to keep and enjoy it! I would have liked if the boxes differed a bit more than they did, though! My sister got  the second box and I only took one product from it that I knew she would not use.

Contents did not explode, considering there are two of everything!

Contents did not explode, considering there were two of everything in my Glossyboxes.

Today, I received the February Birch Box, which stinks as usual. I’m really so annoyed with BirchBox. Can’t wait to say good-bye. I’ll give you a quick rundown of the products and some pictures, too. I finally got a new camera, so I just might start taking real photos soon.

GlossyBox Contents:

I just realized the sticker comes off of the box. Excellent. I will stick it on my forehead.

Sebastian Professional Potion 9: I mix hair cream with my gel, so this will get used eventually. It is a nice size, too, at 1.7 FL OZ/ 50 ml.

Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Serum: The product I took out of my sister’s GB because I am a greasy beast. The tube mentions the serum controls shine. Sold.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Mascara in 01 Extreme Black: The name says it all and will it multiply by two since I got two boxes?

Le Metier De Beaute Replenishing Daily Solution: SPF 50 is good, described as “rich and emollient” bad for this oil heiress. My mom will get this packet.

Narciso Rodriguez for Her Eau de Toilette: I wear this. It is musky and warm.

And the TWO full size products are…

Liquid Sand by O.P.I. in “Can’t Let Go”: I was excited to see this in the Man Repeller box. It is from the Mariah Carey collection and is a beautiful blue/purple depending on the light. It’s a matte glitter. I’ll let you know! $8 US

I have to admit when I read the name of the polish, I almost peed myself.

I have to admit when I read the name of the polish, I almost peed myself.

Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance Lipstick in Fierce: I am snapping my fingers in a Z formation. I love this color. It is a bright red. My sister got Wild, a cool red which suits her better. This lipstick is $26 US, so alone it covers the GlossyBox cost.

Fierce! Lipstick

Birch Box will be quick.

At least I got the polish I saw in the sneak peek.

At least I got the polish I saw in the sneak peek.

Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator: It has papaya, micro-crystals, and aloe. It’s a scrub and a full size tube is $34 US for 120 ml. The sample is 20g.

Lancome La Base Pro Perfecting Make-Up Primer with Smoothing Effect: $42 for a full size bottle on the Lancome website, this primer is supposed to smooth out your bumps, lines, wrinkles, creases, pores, low self-esteem, bad body image- oh! Sorry! Ranting.  I have a few primers. My favorite is by Too Faced so I will most likely pass this along.

Color Club Professional Nail Laquer in  Wild Cactus: A pretty emerald green in a mini-version. I like CCP so I will use this up. BirchBox sells it for $8 US but there is a nearby store that sells it for $6 US.

Have and Have

Have and Have

Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls: I use this already and have a bunch of samples. It smells like Downy, cuts frizz, and makes big, bouncy curls. 8.5 oz is $22 US.

Ghirardelli Caramel Chocolate Square: Love these.

This box was not worth $10, even with shipping. Just sayin’.

I got my ipsy bag this week but I wasn’t impressed. It was still better than BirchBox. I really don’t like BirchBox anymore. Can’t you tell?

(Not so) Glossy Magazines

Every time I go on vacation, I always love to explore the magazine selection at the airport. Since I subscribe to several magazines, finding something I have not read already can be a bit of a job. I’m usually up for the challenge. Maybe it’s because of my age (early 30s) or because I am nauseated by all of the thin bodies that grace magazine covers (not my body type by a long shot), I have become disenchanted by some of the beauty and fashion publications. I’m not only talking about the models and celebrity stalking, rather the quality of content and the writing. It’s a disgrace. I won’t get into my theories as to why these magazines have become so fluffy. In a sense, they have always been easy to read (and fun!) but some magazines always had a hidden gem. Not as of late. Not a ruby or emerald in sight. Not even a pink quartz. Here is a list of magazines that I have read and my opinion on the content. It’s not pretty.

Cosmopolitan: As a rule, I have stopped reading this magazine. I felt I outgrew it long ago but I picked it up on a whim. I read the entire thing in about an hour, cover to cover. I feel that they repeat the same “advice” (this is a family-friendly blog, folks) in every issue, just in a semi-new way. It’s also written so an 8th grader can read it (no offense, but monitor what comes in your house!)

Glamour: I got a subscription because I really used to enjoy perusing this magazine. Of course, as soon as I pay my money, the format goes kerplunk. The articles are so blah, the topics are boring, and they really have resorted to A LOT of pictures. I know it is a fashion magazine but come on! Give me something for five bucks.

Marie Claire: Another one bites the dust! I got a subscription and sure enough, the magazine changes format, the writing gets way too easy, and they have less and less socially aware content. Their editor just recently left for Cosmo. I don’t even want to talk about it.

I have now resorted to Good Housekeeping and January’s issue is awful, too. What the heck is going on? Is America really that illiterate? Not to sound harsh but it scares me that these magazines are written for adults.

Oh! And another thing! Why do I need to look at a $758 dress? I think most of the people reading the above publications would not even think of spending that. Maybe it’s just me.
